K Swap EG

$2,300.00

We’ve been playing a round with wrinkle black powder coat for some time now, but we just recently decided to offer it as an option for some of our top selling air intakes.

The first one is K Swap EG EK through bumper intake with modular velocity stack and Skunk2 air filter.

The second one is B Series with Ultra Street intake manifold. Also with modular velocity stack and Skunk2 air filter.

Head on over to the intake section of the website and check them out!

K Swap EG

A K-swap into an EG (1992-1995 Honda Civic) is one of the most popular and powerful engine swaps in the Honda enthusiast community. The K-series engine, known for its performance and technology (like i-VTEC), transforms the lightweight EG Civic into a high-performance machine. The swap involves replacing the stock D-series or B-series engine with a more modern and powerful K-series engine.

Popular K-Series Engines for a K-Swap:

  1. K20A (from Civic Type R, Integra Type R):
    • Displacement: 2.0L
    • Power: ~200-220 horsepower
    • VTEC: Yes (i-VTEC on both intake and exhaust cams)
    • High-revving engine, known for excellent power delivery and top-end performance.
  2. K24A2 (from Acura TSX):
    • Displacement: 2.4L
    • Power: ~200 horsepower (with more torque compared to the K20)
    • VTEC: Yes (i-VTEC)
    • More low-end torque compared to the K20 due to the larger displacement, making it a popular choice for street and track builds.
  3. K20Z3 (from 2006-2011 Civic Si):
    • Displacement: 2.0L
    • Power: ~197 horsepower
    • VTEC: Yes (i-VTEC)
    • A balanced engine that combines power with reliability.

Components Needed for a K-Swap in an EG:

  1. K-Series Engine:
    • K20 or K24 engine variants (K20A, K20Z, K24A2, etc.) from newer Honda/Acura models are used.
  2. Transmission:
    • A K-series transmission (like the 6-speed from the K20A or K24A2) is necessary for proper integration.
    • Optional: LSD (Limited Slip Differential) transmissions are desirable for better traction.
  3. ECU:
    • The ECU is vital for running the K-series engine. A Hondata KPro ECU or similar tuning solution allows proper tuning for a custom setup.
    • KPro allows for custom maps, data logging, and managing the VTEC system.
  4. Conversion Harness:
    • A conversion harness (like the ones from Rywire or Hybrid Racing) is needed to make the electrical connections from the K-series engine to the EG Civic’s chassis.
  5. Motor Mounts:
    • Custom K-swap motor mounts are required, as the stock EG mounts are not compatible with the K-series engine.
    • Companies like Hasport, Innovative Mounts, and Hybrid Racing produce high-quality mounts specifically designed for K-swaps in the EG.
  6. Axles:
    • K-series specific axles are required. Many kits come with custom axles designed to handle the power of the K-series in the EG chassis.
  7. Shifter and Cables:
    • A K-series shifter and shift cables are needed. K-series engines use a cable shifter system, which is different from the rod linkage used on older engines.
    • Hybrid Racing and K-Tuned offer shifter box and cable kits that allow for clean and precise shifting.
  8. Fuel System:
    • Fuel rail upgrades may be needed to support the increased fuel demand of the K-series engine.
    • You will need K-series compatible fuel injectors and a high-flow fuel pump.
  9. Exhaust System:
    • A custom exhaust manifold and piping are needed to fit the K-series engine in the EG chassis. Many swap kits include or recommend headers that align with the K-series’ exhaust ports and the EG’s exhaust system.
  10. Radiator and Cooling:
    • The stock EG radiator likely won’t be sufficient for cooling the larger, more powerful K-series engine. A K-swap radiator (side-mount or half-size) is recommended for proper cooling.
    • You’ll also need custom radiator hoses and possibly a new fan.
  11. Throttle Cable:
    • A K-series throttle cable is needed to connect to the K-series throttle body.
  12. Suspension and Brakes (Optional but Recommended):
    • With the increased power from the K-series engine, upgrading the suspension and brakes is recommended to handle the extra power and maintain control.
    • Consider coilovers, larger brake rotors, and calipers for better handling and stopping power.

Benefits of a K-Swap in an EG Civic:

  1. Power:
    • K-series engines offer significantly more power compared to the stock D-series or even many B-series engines. A stock K20 can push 200 horsepower, and a built K24 can easily reach over 300 horsepower with modifications.
  2. i-VTEC:
    • The i-VTEC system provides great versatility, offering a combination of good low-end torque and top-end power. This makes the K-series engines excellent for both daily driving and track use.
  3. Reliability:
    • The K-series engines are known for their reliability. Even with modifications like turbocharging, the K-series engines can handle the extra power without sacrificing longevity.
  4. Aftermarket Support:
    • The K-series platform has huge aftermarket support, meaning there are many parts available to make the swap easier and to improve performance once the engine is installed.
  5. Weight Distribution:
    • The EG Civic is a lightweight chassis, and while the K-series engine is heavier than the D-series, it is still a great match for the car’s handling dynamics. With proper suspension setup, the K-swap maintains good balance and performance.
